I noticed small piles of what I assume are bat droppings on the hardwood attic floor. The pellets are dry and dusty now. The attic is not insulated, but the whole floor should probably be cleaned, not just where the droppings are. Probably talking about 1000 sq, ft, roughly - its a big attic in an old Victorian house. What protective gear to wear, if necessary? What method - sweep, vacuum, mop or what? Any other tips? What's the best procedure for cleaning up bat droppings in an attic?
Buy a face mask or four and use gloves. Bat guano can have rabies and can carry disease. Use a shop vac for the whole upstairs attic and dispose of it in the garbage. Just don't breathe in the dust from the guano.
Some people use guano as fertilizer, but if you're not sure about the bats, wear masks and gloves.
