Do mourning doves eat their own droppings?

I have a pair of mourning dove parents caring for their squabs in a high potted plant in my backyard. I've seen on two separate occasions the father (perhaps the mother too, but she's only there at night) eating the squabs' droppings. Just today, he ate two or three pieces immediately after the squab produced them! Talk about cleaning up after your kid's mess! Is this normal? Why do they do this?Do mourning doves eat their own droppings?
Yes, all birds occasionally do eat their own droppings or dropping from their babies. It does not hurt them.
