My cat uses the litter box when urinating, but she is pooing all over my house. She has always been litter box trained but about 3 weeks ago started this behavior. Does anyone know why she would use the litter box for one but not the other? I have not changed litter and I have not moved it. Nothing has changed in the house, no new pets or anything. My cat has stopped using the litter box for her solid droppings but still uses it otherwise.?
Top reasons for a cat to stop using the litter box:
Dirty litter box(es)
Poor choice of litter type
Poor location of litter box(es)
Blocked from the box by a dominant feline housemate
Box size is too small
Too few boxes
Medical problem(s) This should always be a serious consideration. Many medical issues such as diabetes, cystitis and bladder stones can be avoided by feeding canned food not dry food. The increased water content and the decreased carbohydrate content of canned food are healthier for your cat than dry. First, take her to to vet to be sure nothing is going on. Second, it may be a behavior problem. New boyfriend? New candle scent? Anything new in the house at all? DId you change her food?
Cats are funny - anything different can set them off.
I have 2 litter boxes in my house and one of my cats will only urinate in one and poop in the other one. He doesn't mix the two.
Lock her in the bathroom with her litter box till she uses it. Don't let her have the run of the house.
Your cat does not have to be blocked to have a problem. Cats can also get a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). You first need to take your cat to the vet to eliminate any physical cause. And don't wait around -- UTIs hurt!
Cats usually do that behavior because it is the only way they have of telling you that something is wrong. Many people take their animals and their living habits for granted so the cat has to do something dramatic to get their attention and get help. If there have been no changes as you say, it may be due to a physical problem.
How often do you change her litter box?
If she behaves likes this now, something must have changed at home, surely!
How old is she?
Couldn't she do what my cat does and poop outside somewhere?
I'm hardly a vet but would it be wise to consult yours on this somewhat abnormal %26amp; unusual matter?
my older female cat does the same thing, very annoying. the only thing that worked for me is letting her outside to be indoor/outdoor.
